Your Task

Your task is to use a brand new Multiplayer Matchmaking feature in Lens Studio to build and publish a game Snapchatters can
enjoy together. There are 2 game-type categories to choose from (or explore them all to maximize your winning chances!):

“Winner Takes All!”

Fully competitive, free-for-all, quick and accessible. You or any
Snapchatter plays solo and the game ends with just one
winner. For example: a race, or elimination game.

“Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”

Players need to work together to win. Matchmade players
team up and collaborate to achieve a shared goal like in a co-
op game, or have teams compete against one another.

Discover Multiplayer Matchmaking in Lens Studio

Lens Studio 5.24 now enables you to build games including real-time multiplayer matchmaking, powered by Snap's Connected Framework. Matchmaking, synced game state, host authority, and Bitmoji players, all handled for you. Ready to build? Because Snapchatters are definitely ready to play!

How to Get Started?

Start from a ready-made matchmaking template or remix a working sample mini-game, then publish a Lens that friends and strangers can drop into and play together. If you can dream up a multiplayer moment, you can now build it as a Lens.

Empty Multiplayer Matchmaking Template

A minimal synced project with matchmaking, player, and sync already wired and no game logic. For creators who want to build a game from scratch on top of a working multiplayer shell.

Matchmaking Minigame Sample Project

A complete, working matchmaking race mini-game. For creators who want to fork and remix a finished example into their own game that includes synced game states and transitions.

Keep in mind: A valid submission must use multiplayer matchmaking (built on one of the two starters or the Connected Framework directly) and be a published, playable Lens.

How Matchmaking Actually Works (and What It Means for Your Game):

  • A player enters matchmaking and is matched into a session with the other players who joined around the same time.
  • Once that session is created it is a fixed lobby: players can leave at any time, but no new players can join the session after it starts. Sessions do not backfill with real players.
  • Because a session can only shrink over its lifetime, design for players dropping out: keep matches short, handle a mid-game leave gracefully, and consider bots to fill empty slots.
  • Round-based and short-session formats work best: quick rounds that return players to matchmaking (re-queue) between rounds keep lobbies full and players engaged, versus one long session that slowly bleeds players. Build the loop so a user can easily drop back into matchmaking for a fresh lobby.
