Call for Content #1: Halloween Tricks & Treats
Our first challenge (then Call for Content) hosted with Meta (then Spark AR)! So much has changed since October 2021, but Halloween was always one of the most exciting occasions for AR Creators to really go for it and this challenge made it even more thrilling. Our goal was to generate as many high-quality halloween masks, costumes, thematic games and other tricky experiments as possible and the treat was a round $30,000 prize pool.

Creative Brief and Custom Landing Page

The most important thing to come up with before the challenge is the creative brief for our community to know what the task is, what they can win and how. It also should inspire them to come up with a one of a kind project.

With each challenge also comes a custom landing page (not a branded template), designed to communicate our partner’s mission and image, combined with our voice, the community knows so well.

Next to the LP, we also develop a custom registration and submission form, adjusted to the needs of our partner and made in accordance with GDPR security and privacy standards, making sure that all the data we gather is safe and secure.

Another important task to tick off during the pre-launch phase are the Terms and Conditions. We create this document with our legal team for each and every challenge.

Outreach Campaign
Submission period is the time when Creators submit their effects for our challenge. Lasting a bit over 3 weeks, we’re promoting the challenge ongoingly through multiple channels:

The Results & Selection Period
This activation was very dear to our hearts for multiple reasons. First of all, it was our first big project with Meta, one of our best and biggest partners. Secondly, it was one of the first prized challenges / calls for content / hackathons conducted for the XR Community, and it was met with an amazing reception from the Creators. Here you can experience some of the winning projects:
Once the winners are selected, we start the prize fulfillment process right away. With all the necessary paperwork needed to be signed to transfer the prize money to all different countries, with a data validation piece on top, this process takes a couple of weeks, but considering our experience in the field, we take care of the process from start to finish with no unnecessary issues or delays.
Final Thoughts
This was our first AR Challenge developed with Meta (or back then Spark AR) and we were very happy with the results, not only considering the number of entries, but more importantly the quality of AR effects we received – so many games, storytelling experiences, beautiful visuals and moody 3D assets. Since that activation, we can’t imagine our Halloween celebrations without a healthy dose of spooky AR effects!
This challenge proves that this format can work for all types of innovative brands. Why?
